In this article on programming car keys, we will start with one of the most popular brands , Volkswagen. Our goal is to warn you about the possible difficulties and subtleties that may arise when trying to program the key yourself or in order to correctly purchase the transponder you need and choose a workshop for key programming. The immobilizer system in Volkswagen cars is divided into several generations, an approximate gradation of generations occurs over the years, but in each specific case, the immobilizer generation may not match, since the transition from one generation to another occurred gradually. Everything that we describe in our article can also be applied to other brands of the VAG group (SEAT, VW, Skoda, Audi). To program the key, you will need a PIN from your immobilizer. If you enter an incorrect PIN, the car goes into Blocking time mode for a while. At this time key programming is not possible.
Group VAG. Models from 1992 - 2000.
Information about keys in Volkswagen cars of these years is stored
in a separate block (IMMO BOX). These blocks use the ID13 transponder, or its
analogues, for example, T5. Less commonly used are ID33, ID42, ID48. There are
two programming options here. The first option, we can copy information from an
already programmed key to a new transponder, that is, make a clone of the key.
The second option, if there is not a single programmed key, then you can enter
information about the new key, while we need to know the PIN-CODE from the
immobilizer. And also, on cars of these years, the immobilizer can be safely
disabled.
For key programming, it is possible to use the equipment of both
the dealer and the VAG COM or Vasya-Diagnost, which is common among Volkswagen
owners (PIN-CODE does not read). Or you can use almost any car key programmer
capable of reading the PIN-CODE and writing the keys.
Group VAG. Models from 2000-2003.
Information about the keys in Volkswagen cars of these years is stored
in the dashboard. These machines use a transponder (chip)
ID48. Unlike the ID13 chip, the ID48 chip is not copied, that is, it is
impossible to make a clone. There are ID48W transponders on sale designed
to copy ID48 chips, but the copying procedure is no less complicated than
writing a new key. Therefore, this method will not be considered in this
article. The programming procedure and the equipment used completely
repeats the programming procedure for cars from 1992-2000. The only difference
is that the ID48 chip is used.
Group VAG. Models from 2003-2005.
In these years,
the only changes were that the manufacturer began to use the ID48 chip prepared
for the brand of the car (SEAT-TP22, VW-TP23, Skoda TP-24, Audi TP25), that is,
if you purchase an ID48 chip to write to the car, you must pre-prepare it under
TP23. The dealer will not be able to prepare the chip, they use pre-prepared
keys from the factory. Either the seller of this chip or in a car key
programming workshop can prepare a transponder.
Group VAG. Models from 2006-2009.
The ID48 chip is
also used in the data models of the years, but unlike the previous generation,
in addition to preparing the chip for the brand of the car, before writing the
key, information about a specific car ( Component Security ) must be entered
into the chip, this code consists of seven cells in each of which two-digit
code. Six of these cells are stored in the engine control unit and all seven
cells are stored in the dashboard. In order to learn Component Security (CS)
you need expensive programmers such as SUPER VAG, ABRITES, VVIDI. The dealer
will not be able to give information about CS. To summarize, to program the
chip, you must use the ID48 transponder prepared for the brand of the car
(TP23) with the CS data entered. Qualified preparation of a chip for recording
is possible only in a specialized workshop for the manufacture of car keys.
Group VAG. Models from 2010-2014.
Models of these years also have ID48 chips, but to write the chip,
its initial preparation by dump (Dashboard Information) is required, preparing
the transponder (Chip) by dump without a specialized programmer, such as SUPER
VAG, ABRITES, VVIDI is impossible. To program a pure ID48, contact specialized
workshops. Either for self-programming or programming from a dealer, you need
to order a key by VIN number from the factory.
Group VAG. Touareg until 2010.
All Tuareg until 2010 have a KESSY block, information about the keys (chips) is stored in it. It uses an ID46 chip. This transponder can be copied from a working key to a TPX4 clone, but if we do not have a working key or we need a flip key with central locking buttons, we will have to program the chip in the standard way. As with all Volkswagens, to program the chip, we will need to know the PIN-Code, chip preparation before writing is required on models from 2006. You can program the chip using the VAG COM diagnostic program or Vasya-Diagnost (PIN-CODE does not read). Or you can use almost any car key programmer capable of reading the PIN-CODE and writing the keys. The central locking buttons will be programmed automatically.
Group VAG. Touareg after 2010.
These cars after
2010 come with SMART keys with extended memory, it is impossible to copy (make
a clone) such a key. Before programming a new key or chip, it must be prepared
for several vehicle blocks. You can prepare a transponder using the following
specialized programmers ABRITES, VVIDI. The programming of such keys is carried
out either by the dealer (key ordered by VIN number), or in a specialized
workshop for the production of keys. We categorically do not recommend
experimenting or trying your hand at such a machine.
